Something Good

For the first time, I walked into a congresspersons' office for something other than a tour. Five cohorts and I met with with a congressional aid because 27 million people are today enslaved. Men, women and children suffer violence from more powerful oppressors, and the honorable representative could do something about it.

Human trafficking- modern day slavery- is a billion dollar industry. The Trafficking in Persons office (TIP) , however, received less than $1 per trafficking victim to combat the problem last year. State representatives now have the opportunity to co-sponsor a bill (the Child Protection Compact Act, sponsored by representative Chris Smith) allocating more funds to the TIP office with the hope of eradicating slavery in a few select countries.

My fellow advocates did something good on Monday, March 30 by speaking for those who could not speak for themselves. I agree with a wise man who once said, "It's more blessed to give than to receive," and we were certainly blessed ourselves by seeking the good of others.

The point of me sharing all this with you is for you to be encouraged to learn more. If you're willing, please visit www.ijm.org to learn about one organization making a difference.
